These Crew Worker Terms (the "Crew Terms") apply when you use United Vows to find and accept shifts helping wedding vendors (the "Crew" lane of the Vendor Exchange). They are part of, and add to, the United Vows Terms of Service (the "Terms"), which also apply to you, including the binding arbitration agreement and class action waiver in Section 14 of the Terms for any dispute between you and United Vows. The rules for vendors who book you are in the Vendor Exchange Terms. If these Crew Terms and the Terms conflict about a shift, these Crew Terms control for that shift.
Please read these Crew Terms carefully. You accept them, and the version you accepted is recorded, before you can accept your first shift. If you do not agree, do not use Crew.
1. Who can use Crew
You must be at least 18 years old, able to work in the United States, and able to enter into a binding contract. You need a United Vows worker account and a connected Stripe account with Stripe's identity verification complete before you can be paid. Everything in your profile (name, photo, roles, experience, licences, availability and the area you work in) must be accurate and kept current.
2. You are an independent contractor
You are an independent contractor in business for yourself. You are not an employee of United Vows, and nothing in these Crew Terms makes you one. You do not receive wages, benefits or workers' compensation coverage from United Vows.
- You choose your work. You decide whether to use Crew at all, when you are available, and which shifts to accept. You may accept, decline, or propose a different rate for any shift. Declining a shift never affects your standing.
- You decide how to do the work. United Vows does not set shifts, assign work, supervise, train, schedule or direct how you perform a shift. A hiring vendor tells you the result it needs and the event details (role, date, times, location, and any venue safety rules); you decide how to do the work.
- You are free to work for anyone. You may work for any other vendor or business, on or off the Platform, including a vendor you met through Crew, and including at the same time as you use Crew.
When you accept a shift, your agreement for that shift is with the hiring vendor, not with United Vows. United Vows is not your employer, joint employer, staffing agency or employment agency. It provides the Platform and facilitates payment.
3. Shifts and rates
Before you accept a shift you see the hiring vendor, the role, the date and times, the location, any licence the role requires, and the rate. The rate is what you accept for the shift as described. If a shift runs longer than described, extra time is paid only if you and the hiring vendor agree the extra time and rate on the Platform; you may decline to stay.
4. Payments
- Your rate is not reduced by United Vows's fee. The hiring vendor pays United Vows's service fee (currently 10% of your rate) on top of your rate.
- Card processing. Stripe charges a card processing fee on the hiring vendor's payment. That fee, at the amount Stripe actually charged on that payment, is deducted from your payout. United Vows never pays a card processing fee, and it keeps no part of this fee.
- Payout. Your payout is transferred to your connected Stripe account at the time shown when you accept the shift. If a transfer cannot be made (for example because your Stripe account is restricted), it is retried, and United Vows holds the amount only until the transfer can complete or the payment is refunded.
- Pay only through the Platform. A hiring vendor must pay you for a shift booked through Crew only through the Platform. You can still work for that vendor directly outside Crew (Section 2).
5. Taxes
You are responsible for your own income tax, self-employment tax and any other tax on what you earn, and for any business licence or registration your work requires. United Vows does not withhold tax from your payouts, except any withholding the law requires (for example backup withholding if a valid taxpayer identification number is not provided). You must give accurate tax information through Stripe. Where the law requires it, a Form 1099 reporting your payouts is issued to you through Stripe, our payment processor, and delivered electronically; you consent to electronic delivery of tax forms under Section 1 of the Terms.
6. Cancellations and no-shows
You can cancel a shift you accepted from your account. Please cancel as early as you can, because a vendor and a couple are relying on you.
- If you cancel an accepted shift, or do not show up, the hiring vendor is refunded everything it paid, and you are not paid for that shift. The service fee and the card processing fee on that payment are then recorded as an amount you owe United Vows. That amount is recovered only by deducting it from your later Crew payouts. It is never charged to your card, a deduction never takes a payout below zero, and you can see any amount outstanding in your account.
- If the hiring vendor cancels, you are not paid for that shift and you owe nothing.
- Standing. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows can lead to strikes (Section 9).
- Safety first. If you arrive and the work is unsafe or unlawful, or you are harassed, you may leave. Report it to trust@unitedvows.com or through the dispute process in Section 10, and it will not be treated as a no-show while it is reviewed.
7. Conduct
At every shift you agree to be on time and fit to work (never impaired by alcohol or drugs), to follow the law and the venue's safety rules, and to treat the couple, guests, the hiring vendor and other workers with respect. Harassment, discrimination, theft and violence are never allowed. Do not photograph or film the event or its guests, or post about them, without the permission of the hiring vendor and the couple. Keep private anything you learn about the couple, their guests and the event. Our Acceptable Use Policy applies to you.
8. Licences and proof
Some roles need a licence, permit or certificate where the event takes place, for example a security guard licence for security roles, an alcohol server or bartender permit for bar roles, a food handler card for some food roles, a valid driver's licence for driving roles, and an FAA Part 107 certificate for drone roles. You must not accept a shift in such a role unless you hold what it requires. Upload a copy to your profile, keep it current, and tell us at once if it expires, is suspended or is revoked. When we check a document we check only that it appears to match what you told us; we do not verify that it is valid. A hiring vendor may ask to see the original.
9. Reviews, standing and strikes
After a shift, you and the hiring vendor can review each other, and reviews must be honest. A no-show, a late cancellation pattern, misconduct, fraud, or a report you knowingly made falsely can result in a strike. The strike rules in Section 12 of the Vendor Exchange Terms apply to you in the same way, and your account shows your strikes and any restriction in force.
10. Problems with a shift
If you have a problem with a shift (for example, pay you believe you are owed through the Platform), open a dispute from your account. The vendor dispute process in Section 6 of the Vendor Exchange Terms applies. Its outcome decides only what happens to money that moves through the Platform and the effect on standing; it is not a finding in any court or arbitration, and you keep any rights you have against the hiring vendor under the law. Disputes between you and United Vows are governed by Section 14 of the Terms.
11. Insurance and injuries
United Vows does not provide insurance for you. As an independent contractor you are not covered by United Vows's insurance, and you may not be covered by a hiring vendor's workers' compensation insurance. You may want your own liability, accident or disability insurance. If you are injured at a shift, get help first, then tell the hiring vendor and report it to trust@unitedvows.com.
12. Clients of the hiring vendor (12 months)
For 12 months after a shift, you must not solicit the couple you worked for at that shift for services of the kind the hiring vendor provides to them. This is not a non-compete: you remain free to work for anyone, to serve a couple who contacts you on their own, and to advertise generally, and it applies only as far as the law that governs it allows (Section 13 of the Vendor Exchange Terms).
13. Your information
To run Crew we use your profile, availability, work area, licences you upload, reviews and shift history. Hiring vendors who view or book you see your name, photo, roles, experience, reviews, general work area and whether you hold a required licence. Stripe receives the identity and tax details it needs to verify you and pay you. How United Vows handles personal data, and your rights over it, are described in our Privacy Policy.
14. Changes, and ending
We may update these Crew Terms from time to time. We will give you reasonable advance notice of any material change, by email or in the app, and publish every change on this page. For a change that adds a fee, raises a fee or otherwise reduces your rights, we will give at least 7 days' notice before it applies to you. Changes that are required by law, that address security or fraud, or that only benefit you may take effect immediately. A change never applies to a shift you already accepted. You can stop using Crew or close your account at any time; shifts you already accepted, and amounts already owed either way, are still handled under these Crew Terms. Section 12 of the Terms (Account suspension and termination) applies to your account.
