"Old-school bakery & coffee shop crafting marzipan cakes, signature pastries, soups & sandwiches."
Nielsen's Pastries is a Seattle bakery and coffee shop serving authentic Danish pastries, soups, and sandwiches, established in 1965 and currently located in the lower Queen Anne neighborhood. Known for traditional Danish pastries including marzipan cake (a princess cake with three layers of sponge cake, raspberry filling, whipped cream custard, and hints of rum), the Potato (puff pastry filled with whipped cream wrapped in marzipan and rolled in cocoa powder), almond crescents, Napoleon Hats, and Sarah Bernhardts. Founded by John Nielsen in 1965, originally on 3rd Ave in downtown Seattle; moved to the current Queen Anne location in 1996 when development on Benaroya Hall began. Chris and Holly Prairie purchased the bakery in the summer of 2017. Located at 520 2nd Ave W, Suite A, Seattle, WA 98119, in the lower Queen Anne neighborhood. Open Monday through Saturday, 8am to 2pm. Customers describe the pastries as unique and hard to find elsewhere, praise the welcoming and friendly staff, and highlight the cozy Danish atmosphere; some drive 30 miles specifically for items like the Potato and Snitter.
