United Vows compared

The short answer

All five platforms are free for couples to plan with. The biggest difference is how vendors pay: The Knot and WeddingWire sell advertising plans, Zola charges vendors credits to connect with couples, Joy publishes no vendor program, and United Vows charges vendors no subscription or lead fee, only a 7 to 9% commission when a couple pays them through it. The Knot, WeddingWire and Zola have far larger vendor directories and review histories.

Where the others are stronger

  • A far larger, long-established directory: about 175,000 wedding pros in more than 20 categories, and a brand The Knot says couples have trusted for 30 years.[2]
  • A deep review base: over 3 million vendor reviews, per WeddingWire, and Couples' Choice Awards decided by couple reviews.[3][25]
  • A registry with gifts from top brands and any online store, experiences and cash funds, connected to a free website with over 600 templates.[17][13]
  • Cash gifts: Joy says it takes no fee and connects Venmo, PayPal and Cash App so guests can give without a transaction fee.[20]

Where United Vows is different

  • Vendors pay no subscription and no lead fees. The only automatic charge is a 7 to 9% commission on payments couples make them through United Vows, and the rate drops as their booked contract value grows.[1]
  • Couples pay no platform fee. The commission comes from the vendor’s side, so the vendor’s quote is the couple’s total.[1]
  • A verified review can only come from a couple who booked and paid through United Vows, so verified reviews cannot be bought.[24]
  • Vendor business tools are included: proposals, contracts signed in the app, invoices, inbox, calendar, profit tracking per booking and email follow-ups.[1]
  • Couples are matched with vendors on style, budget and location. Sponsored placement is not available at launch; when it opens, every sponsored slot will be labeled.[1]
