Fogo Azul NYC

Fogo Azul NYC is a women-led samba reggae drumline and marching band based in New York City, available for hire at weddings, parades, bar and bat mitzvahs, private parties, festivals, and corporate events. Fogo Azul performs Brazilian samba reggae drumming rooted in the Afro-Brazilian percussion traditions of Bahia, with ensembles ranging from 5 to 50 or more drummers and no amplification. Founded in 2016 by Stacy Kovacs, who had previously launched the NYC chapter of the Batala samba reggae franchise in 2012; co-founded alongside Dany Johnson, a veteran percussionist and founding member of the all-girl No Wave percussion band Pulsallama. Based in New York City, serving NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware. Audience members and members describe the ensemble as visually and sonically arresting, citing the energy of the drummers at street festivals, food fests, and parades including the Mermaid Parade.
