Yoshi's is an Oakland music venue and Japanese restaurant located in Jack London Square, combining live performances with a full sushi and Japanese cuisine menu. Founded in 1972, Yoshi's is known as a jazz-focused club that also books R&B, soul, comedy, and rock acts, with roughly 500 shows presented each year across a 310-seat club, 250-seat restaurant, and 60-seat bar and lounge. Originally opened in Berkeley in 1972 by Kaz Kajimura, Hugh 'Hiro' Hori, and Yoshie Akiba, Yoshi's moved to Oakland's Claremont Avenue in 1979 and to its current Jack London Square location after outgrowing a 130-seat space; notable performers have included Chick Correa, Wynton Marsalis, Pharoah Sanders, Van Morrison, and Poncho Sanchez.
