"Romantic, high-ceilinged performing-arts venue features diverse shows in an Italian rococo building."
Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is a historic performing arts venue in downtown Portland, housed in an Italian Rococo Revival building originally constructed in 1928 as the Portland Publix Theatre. The hall hosts a wide variety of performances including classical, pop, rock, jazz, comedy, dance, and theater, and serves as the home venue for the Oregon Symphony and Portland Youth Philharmonic. After a restoration in the 1980s supported by a donation from Arlene and Harold Schnitzer, the hall underwent major acoustic upgrades in 2021. Located at 1037 SW Broadway in downtown Portland, accessible by public transit. Visitors highlight the hall's acoustics, large lounges that ease intermission crowding, concessions on multiple levels, friendly staff, and the building's well-maintained historic character.
